What Kind of Art did American Revolution Artists Make?
In the early eighteenth century, European painters were brought into the colonies. Romanticism was an important movement in arts, literature, and it first originated in the late 18th century. Even though computers and other forms of advanced technology didn't exist back in the American Revolution, artists still utilized their resources to create paintings, engravings, etchings, and sketches. Portraits were the main types of art made during the Revolution, however. They were supposed to reflect the social status of the patron and/ or the subject. One of the most famous works of art made about the American Revolution was Washington Crossing the Delaware, by Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze.
Engravings were, back then, prints made from engraved plates, blocks, and surfaces. It was also a process of cutting or carving a design on a hard surface.
